TUTOR BIO
Singing has been a passion of mine ever since I can remember, and I still find I’m learning something new every day. I love to listen to all styles of music (soul, rock, jazz, blues, musical theatre, pop, opera, country etc.) and my South Asian influences (Qawwali, Bollywood, Bhangra) have helped me appreciate the vocal technique used to excel in these varied genres. I aim to inspire my students by empowering them with the creative choices to explore their voice exactly how they would like to. The most exciting part for me is watching the growth my students gain in confidence and ability. It’s a myth when they say you’re “born with it” – some of my most successful students started with the belief that they were “tone deaf” and then graced professional stages.
My previous experience includes work as a Secondary Teacher (Maths, Music, Drama) which has given me strengths in designing bespoke and effective sessions and monitoring/assessing progress to push my students to their maximum potential. Alongside this, I pursued my passion for music by working as a vocal director for Middlesbrough Youth Theatre and provided private vocal tuition in the North East for 5+ years to all ages. I am proud to say several of my younger students have successfully gained places into prominent stage schools across the UK such as Arts Ed, Chichester, BIM to study performance related disciplines.

How We Teach Music Lessons
Lessons can stick to a formal grading but many of our students choose to learn via a more informal song based method, learning to play through the songs they love. The two methods can also be combined at the preference of the pupil. So, jam through a favourite song one week; learn a grading piece the next.
Lessons can be tailored to your specific needs through song-based learning, but if you’d like a more structured learning process we also offer the Rock School music grades and traditional grades. Rockschool Music grades are the world's first Music Graded Syllabus that focuses on the more current, contemporary rock and pop genres for your performance pieces. With this, you can develop your playing skills, playing songs that you or your child recognize rather than the sometimes more un-inspiring classical pieces, whilst still achieving an accredited qualification.
